kek lok si penang

Rebecca Wilkinson
I thought the Kek Lok Si was a place of worship? Not a tourist destination? Ummm........I ask all of you to drive up to Kek Lok Si through the little town & market area & see if you believe this carpark will halt traffic congestion? Does this tourist destination then have all the approvals/permits for being a tourist destination? And what of the crematorium & all the cars and processions that will stream through town to this during all the necessary festivals. I wonder if the residents here have really thought this all through properly?

Residents want halted car park project to proceed

RESIDENTS in the surrounding areas of the Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang are having a nightmare due to the traffic congestion there.

Clement Liang watch out the identity of the so-called 'residents'. Are they truly representing the interest of the residents in Air itam or just the proxies of the temple ? Nothing was mentioned about the legality of the car park construction or the safety of the hillslope cutting.

It is well and good that the "residents" of Ayer Itam are in support of the Car Park at the KLS. Are they the residents of Savoy Gardens whose homes of years were destroyed and they were forcibly evicted? There were horrible stories of old ladies being intimidated into abandoning their homes. Bulldozers were brought in to demolish houses whilst there were people still living next door. You do not hear this in the media because they were told by "the higher-ups" not to run this story or face the music. So is this Bersih2???? What public safety precautions was practiced there? Was MPPP aware of these demolitions? It is a pity that a beautiful and pristine part of Ayer Itam's hillside is making way for a Crematorium. I do not believe that MPPP's building department would have approved this project. I know the Acting Head of Building Department and his believe in good public health and regular exercise, would have considered this an appropriate location for a Crematorium. There are many health freaks and hikers who frequent the Ayer Itam dam for their daily exercise, fresh and unpolluted air. How would this fit in with the proposed Crematorium??? Can our CM send a team of MPPP planners and architects to Ipoh to visit their Crematorium at Bercham? Don't have to go far. After that come back and tell us about your approval process.,
