Copied from PHT page: PHT would like to report that the meeting with the Chief Minister on Saturday evening was very well received by all parties. PHT would like to thank CM & all involved for taking the time to meet with NGO's. CM clarified his position on the 'land swop' deal & the idea of the tunnel. Please go to the link to learn more. Many NGO's were represented, & attending this meeting with the CM, was YDP MPPP Patahiyah, Head of Building Department Mr Yew Tung Seang, & several engineers from MPPP, just to name a few. The main aim of this meeting was to clarify the State's position on the proposed Tunnel project & it was this that the meeting mainly addressed. CM also clarified that State would not be agreeing on additional land reclamation deals as yet. The issue of density, 'units per acre', was also raised and all NGO's who attended have requested that MPPP & CM re-look at the density issue, especially where areas set at 15-30 units per acre are now applicable to change to 87 units per acre with approvals. YDP MPPP Patahiyah mentioned that this will be looked into. PHT did put forward a suggestion that informal meetings like this should be held more often in order to clarify 'issues of the day'. In this way NGO's & interested parties would be able to comment & issue statements with a more balanced view.

  • At the housing forum which was organised by 3G (excellent forum I must say), I had the chance to sit next to YB Chow, YB Wong, YB Liew, and YB Jason! We got to talking about the topic of the day which is the horrendous traffic jam, and what can we do about public transport. Of course the answer is that it's controlled by Federal Government. I have this idea that we should look at UNESCO's request to restrict traffic in George Town WHS and use that to lobby for a park and ride zone which is larger than the WHS, where traffic management plus trams or some form of electric transport could be introduced. I hope those people who are in the transport planning council can consider the suggestion.

GEORGE TOWN: The state government will not allow any new land reclamation along Gurney Drive as part of its deal with developers to construct infrastructure projects.

      • Rebecca Wilkinson Actually this article clarifies the CM's stand.....which is good.....he should clarify more! He cannot complain if people get up in arms when he makes what seems to be spontaneous announcements in the press....but ...we all know the press. Clarification solves all sorts of problems and allows us to gauge things in a more balanced manner.

      • Rebecca Wilkinson CM clarified his position as stated in the article, in the meeting with NGO's on Saturday evening. He stated that the State has no plans for additional reclamation works, and the land swop deal mentioned, would involve only the current E&O reclamation area that was agreed upon by the last State Govn.

      • Clement Liang I saw this old beautiful but tilted garden gazebo which supposed to belong to Loke Mansion being walled off on both sides (viewed from Gurney Drive). Wonder what happen to it...
        Friday at 21:02 ·
      • Rebecca Wilkinson Hey Clement. The gazebo has indeed tilted & the apron cracked because of dewatering of the site by the development next door. However, this will be restored. The hoarding was put up as a security wall as Paragon built the wall & rectfied the drain. Once this is complete the hoarding will ve removed & the gazebo restored to it's rightful standing. Still a way to go.

Does this tourist destination then have all the approvals/permits for being a tourist destination? I wonder if the residents here have really thought this all through properly?

      • Clement Liang watch out the identity of the so-called 'residents'. Are they truly representing the interest of the residents in Air itam or just the proxies of the temple ? Nothing was mentioned about the legality of the car park construction or the safety of the hillslope cutting.
