GEORGE TOWN: Another hill cutting activity for development purpose is giving residents the jitters, this time in Tanjung Bungah.

Moses Wu, 39, who lives in Persiaran Tanjung Bunga 2, claimed that the hills there were being cleared for the construction of 20 semi-detached houses.

He also claimed that separate construction works had started last Sunday behind one of the two blocks of a newly-completed condominium after a few years' hiatus.

"We are worried that all the construction works might result in a landslide during the rainy season.

"There used to be greenery in this area but now the trees here have been cut down. We just hope that there will be no further development here," he said yesterday.

A check at the project site in Persiaran Tanjung Bunga 3 showed the presence of an excavator and construction workers at the site.

Wu decided to highlight the construction works following Wednesday's report of a proposed high-rise project on a hillside in Paya Terubong which had caused residents there to worry about their safety.

It is learnt that the construction work behind the newly-completed condominium did not involve hill-cutting but only the clearing of rocks and earth to make way for a service road.

The developer of the 20 units of semi-detached houses could not be reached for comment.
