Better public transport system needed - but its under control of the FEDERAL Gov what are we going to do to get it for Penang ?? Yes Time for CHANGE

Better public transport system needed

WITH regard to the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP), I would like to suggest that the state government integrate the public transport system as well as make the island a liveable and safe place.

Motorists have to sit through massive traffic congestions during peak hours. This can be avoided if the public transport system is good, affordable and convenient to use.

A railway link or ERT spanning the route from the North to the Penang International Airport and to the Second Link should be a priority.

Public transport such as buses and taxis should be integrated. They must ply routes along the ERT stations just like how it is done in Singapore. These stations should have multi-storey car parks too.

The master plan should make the island a liveable place with more people-friendly and safer pedestrian walkways.

This includes better landscapes, jogging tracks and bicycle lanes.

The recent widening of Jalan Mahsuri in front of The One does not have pedestrian walkways. Trees that hinder the construction of these walkways should be shifted elsewhere.

The Bandar Bayan Baru Residents' Association has highlighted to the local authorities the need for safer pedestrian walkways, especially for mega projects such as sPICE and Bayan City.

We expect more vehicles in the Bandar Bayan Baru township once these projects are completed.

A well-thought out integrated public transport with complementing infrastructure should be incorporated in the master plan to deal with the rising number of vehicles on the road.
